Chianti

Chianti wine tour, Tuscany

The Chianti wine tour is a beautiful way to discover Tuscan soul and the famous wine-area, known everywhere for its wine Chianti Classico, a real celebrated brand.

Chianti, whose first definition was made in 1716, described the area near the villages of Gaiole, Castellina and Radda; the so-called Lega del Chianti and later Provincia del Chianti (Chianti province). In 1932 the Chianti area was completely re-drawn and divided in seven sub-areas: Classico, Colli Aretini, Colli Fiorentini, Colline Pisane, Colli Senesi, Montalbano and Rùfina.

The Chianti wine tour brings you to discover most of the villages added in Chianti to their name-such as Greve in Chianti, birthplace of famous Giovanni da Verrazzano, explorer of  North America, Castellina in Chianti, Gaiole in Chianti and San Donato.

Chianti extends over the provinces of Florence and Siena, covering all of the area between the two cities and extending to the east toward the Valdarno and to the west to the Val d’Elsa. The Chianti wine tour shows you a unique landscape, with green, gentle hills covered with wide fields of vineyards and olive groves, small stone villages and main wine producers.

The black rooster, on the neck labels of many Chianti Classico, is the symbol of the Consorzio Chianti Classico, a foundation of producers in the Chianti Classico region. The foundation was born with the aim of promoting the wines of the region, improving quality and preventing wine fraud.
